Currently reading.....

Wallpaper* OCTOBER issue

September 13 is a landmark date in the history of Wallpaper*.

For the first time in eleven-year history they've handed over the reins of editor to three giants in three disciplines they hold especially dear. Hedi Slimane, Jeff Koons and Dieter Rams have each edited a 20-page section of the magazine and a cover for their October issue.

Slimane's contribution is a set of 20 exquisitely designed 60cm x 40cm posters using his own distinctive photography and typography. The posters are divided into two sets, 0-10 and 11-20, one set appearing each of the three issues. With subjects ranging from London's Abbey Road to hair fittings at his last Dior Homme show,
you can sample each of them below....

Aaron Kwok Dancing Nation Live in SIngapore 2007

We went for Aaron Kwok concert on last Saturday, 1st of Sept 07.... Its been 5 years since his last concert here in 2002 which i missed it. Finally I get to see his last concert thats because he will be concentrating on his preparation for his upcoming theatrical play... COOL!!

In the two and a half hour of his concert, Aaron sang close to 30 songs of his best hits.... And his dancing skill is amazing!!! Flaunting his "对你爱不完" famous hand-gesture and new choreographed hip-hop dance, "铁幕诱惑" robotic dance movement, "失忆谅解备万录" double sword dance, to "无忌" flamenco dance on stage flawlessly..... Aaron is simply a dancing god!!! :D

Although the performance is not much different from his 2005 HongKong concert, but I am glad that he did not try to accommodate to Singapore fans by singing more chinese songs... I guess thats what most of the fans wanted. Especially when his fans went crazy when he sang his classic cantonese song like "狂野之城", "痛哭" and "风里密码".

Besides his great voices and dancing moves, he also attempted to play "我为何让你走" using the saxophone!!! But he encounter some problem with the saxophone. Nevertheless, he keep trying over and over again for 6 times to at least finish the whole song at his best effort... At that moment, his determination really touches me alot!! RESPECT!! ^^

881 yo ah yo... Mai "TECHNO" laaaa!!

Last week, I went to watch 881 with Max and Kim at Plaza Singapura. And I must say I love it very much so that I don't even mind watching it the 2nd time. :) For those who have not watched it.... PLS GO CATCH IT!! nooo regrets at all....

For those who seen it and keep asking themselves...

"What is the meaning behind the extensive use of the word "techno" in the whole movies?"

Well, if you have watched the movie closer enough and giving it a deeper thought of the entire movie, its not just portraying 2 pair of sisters trying to fight out on getai, Royston is also trying to put across the message to us to prolong our very own
local culture of getai and dialect which is diminishing due to the westernazation influences.

Notice the major difference on the durian sisters costumes and papaya's? The papaya is always made involving the use of feathers which symbolized the tradition and original start of stage performance. Unlike the durian sisters, short skirts, tight fitting tops and the madonna's outfit. The use of 'techno' to label the westernization people and stuffs might be perceive by some people as being a silly "beng" joke but think again.

881 is trying to resist the overwhelming of westernazation that is eating up our own grown culture, our identity.
It is a milestone for the revive of chinese heritage and also a milestone for the people to wake up and balance the trend of westernization.

The Americans thinks you are a Chinese and the Chinese thinks u are an angmoh. At the end of the day, where do you belong? I smell identity crisis going on in Singapore.... Know where your root is!! (^o^)_Vm

Everything Bad is Good for You

Recently been reading a book by Steven Johnson, called "Everything Bad is Good for You"
Its been awhile since i pick up a book... remembered the last book I read was "The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell".
In this book of his, Johnson claims that popular culture in general, and tv shows and computer games in particular, have grown more complex and demanding over time and are in fact making us smarter. Its a Brain Candy for all.
Startling, provocative, and endlessly engaging, "Everything Bad is Good for You" is a hopeful and spirited account of contemporary culture. Elegantly and convincingly, Johnson demonstrates that our culture is not declining but changing — in exciting and stimulating ways we'd do well to understand. You will never regard the glow of the video game or television screen the same way again.
